Sometimes....

The girls are doing their own laundry now.  I was just in the basement, and--seeing them struggling with one phase of the project--I gave them a little suggestion.

When S thought I was out of earshot she said to E, "Should we do what Mommy said?  Sometimes she's right."

Hahaha!  Every once in awhile.......  :-)

Number sense

Evelyn:

When I think about the number 30, I think of Ms. Alvarez.  It sounds blue!  When I think of the number 11, it reminds me of Ms. Crystal and it sounds black.  Sierra's number is 19 and it sounds brown.  Daddy's is 36, green.  29 reminds me of red.  That's you, Mommy!  Ruby reminds me of red, too.  Ruby's number is 7.

FedEx for the Pharisees

Evelyn, explaining the story of Hanukkah:

"...... and so while they were waiting for the new oil to be shipped, the candle burned for eight whole days!!!"

Alas, if they had only been members of amazon Prime!

Upward aspirations

Evelyn just came up to me and said, "I really need a grappling hook that I can attach to the ceiling.  Please??"

WHAT?  Where does she come up with this stuff?!?

Vocab queen

During reading time the other day:

Me, commenting on the story:  I think they are talking here about the King of the Mermaids, referring to his sword, or spear, or.... what is that called?  I can't think of the name....

Evelyn:  Oh, his trident?

Smartypants!  I love it.

Cast in red

Sierra fell on the playground and hurt her arm several weeks ago.  The X-ray from the day of  the injury didn't show a fracture, but we went back to the ER today and sure enough, she does have a fracture in her elbow.  She has been in and out of her sling for the past two weeks and even was doing her cursive handwriting pages and playing her cello, but this afternoon she got a (bright red) cast on, so that's going to slow her down for awhile.  She's a pretty good sport about it, but bummed she won't be able to swim, as they just reopened the Colfax pool this very week after a long renovation.

Bribing a healthnut

I've been eating very healthy lately so when Ev was begging for something the other day, she decided to use the following approach:

"Pretty please, Mommy, with green drink and salad?"

Lyrics in the time of lice

Can't believe two months have gone by and I keep forgetting to record a very precious moment that happened when we were in the throes of ridding our household of head lice.

I was in the bathroom nit-combing Sierra's hair for the umpteenth time, it was killing her head and she was crying.  It took me about 40 minutes to go through her whole massively thick head of hair and it was a huge trial for her.  At some point, completely of her own volition, Evelyn figured out that it would be helpful for her to sing a song to Sierra to help ease her pain.  She stood in the doorway of the bathroom singing, "I love you in the morning, I love you at noon, I love you after lunch, and all afternoon", etc., etc., ...... "You're the  very best sister in the world"  Amazing little tunes, and the sweetest little made-up lyrics you could possibly ask for.  The astonishing thing was that she kept this up for a good solid 30 minutes or so.  This one's going down in history....

Sierra's poetry

Jonathan wrote this down the other day

Sierra's poetry

The cat eats the mouse
who eats the cheese
who likes the breeze

A woman in charge of her own body

I just attempted to fix the part in Sierra's hair.

Sierra, batting my hand away: "Stop! I have my RIGHTS!!!"
