Lifelong passion

Yesterday Sierra had her interview with Miss Elisa, who will be her cello teacher starting this Fall. Sierra's comment after the interview: "You play piano and Daddy plays the violin. Now we'll have a cellist in the family. I'm going to play the cello from now until I die!"

Dental developments

Sierra had big news today--here's how she shared it in an email to Nana:

Nana,

I have a real loose tooth! It might come out when I'm at your house, maybe not at the camping trip, but it really is loose! It feels funny when I wiggle it.

Love, Sierra

Computer math

S: Can you do up these buttons? I can't quite get them.
Me: Well, you did the first four yourself--I'll do the last two. How many is that all together?
S: (think....for about half a second....) SIX! No, wait. It would actually be only five if you count zero.

Peer pressure

My friend Randy was visiting this past weekend and came to Sierra's performance at my student recital. A few days later I got a note from Randy with a story from the recital reception...... her telling of the anecdote below:

Ok, it's funnier in person but at least you can imagine Sierra's inflection. So, she filled her plate at the reception with cakes and brownies, etc., and I sadly took grapes and strawberries. We sat down across from each other.

Sierra: Why don't you have any cake?
Randy: I don't eat it.
S: Why?
R: For my health
S: Well, this little brownie (Pointing to the round mini muffin type brownie) is really DEE-LI-ICIOUS and it is SOOOOOO SMALL. Get one.
R: Hmmm, well, can you go break into that long line and get one for me?
S: Yes
.........
S: Here it is
R: Thank you. (I place it on my plate but don't touch it.)
S: EAT IT
R: Ok. (I take a tiny bite....she seems satisfied) I pick up my plate and leave and dump it in the garbage.

Now, I have stood up to lots of adults pressuring me to eat stuff and I hold up well. With Sierra, when she said EAT IT....what can you do?

Civil rights

Last night Sierra set up a whole raft of Playmobil characters on the kitchen table. They were all in pairs, facing each other and holding hands. When I came in and saw the setup, I asked if they were all dancing. "No," she said, "they are all getting married. Some of them are two boys, and some of them are two girls, and some of them are a girl and a boy. But they are all marrying who they love best."

Well said, my friend. Someday, someday.

Definition of sleep

Yesterday's stroller conversation....

E: I'm asleep!
S: No you're not.
E: Yes I am!
S: No you're not.
E: Yes I am!

..... (repeat....)

S: Look! When you're asleep it means that you are quiet and you let me hold your hand!
