Longfellows

Sierra and Evelyn wrote poems using the letters of their names to think of words that describe them:

Silly
Intelligent
Eight
Radiant
Responsible
Active

Elegant
Valiant
Easy-going
Loveable
Young
Nice

There's a hole....

At dinner Evelyn announces that there's a hole in her bread.  At the exact same moment, and as if we had planned it, Sierra starts singing, "There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza," Jonathan starts singing, "There's a hole..... there's a hole.... there's a hole in the bottom of the sea," and I start singing, "There's a hole in the middle and it goes right through--said I, 'There's a hole in the donut too'"   We almost died laughing.

I often tell the girls that there's a song for everything.... in this case apparently there are three!!

What's in a name?

Evelyn at swim class, after Miss Pattye stopped to answer a question to a college student walking by:

E:  Miss Pattye, what was that girl's name?

Ms. P:  Erica

E:  Hmm.  That's a very pretty name.......  But I'm glad my name is not Erica.  I really like "Evelyn"... it's a lovely name!

One if by land, two if by sea

Tonight I was reading Paul Revere's Ride to the girls.  In the later section of the poem where it describes where Paul revere is at 1 o clock, and then two o clock, Evelyn was perplexed.

E:  But it's all dark!

Me:  Yes, that's because it's 2 o clock in the morning.

(......pause.....)

E:  Hmmm..... I don't think he got very much sleep!

Perpetuating the myth

This week when Evelyn revealed her first loose tooth, Sierra came booking over all excitedly and whispered, "Ooh, ooh, ooh, since I know the secret of the tooth fairy, can *I* be the tooth fairy for Evelyn?!?!?"

Sit down and focus!

Sierra has a friend over for a sleepover following her (very fun) birthday party this afternoon.  The two of them and Evelyn have been working with clay at the kitchen table for the last several hours.  Sierra has been totally on task and just now when the other two girls were jumping around the room chanting something or another, Sierra instructed them, "Come on guys!  Just stay in your seats so you can focus!"   I shoulda caught that one on video....
