Hiker girl

While in Portland with Nana, we went for a hike at Dog Mountain. Sierra likes riding in the backpack, but eventually gets a bit restless. On the way down there was a section of trail that was a bit wider in the forest, with not too many rocks and tree roots sticking out, so we let her out of the backpack so she could walk a bit. We were amazed because typically when she is running around we can't keep her going in the same direction--she likes to head back and forth. In this case, she knew to keep going down the trail and she ended up hiking about 45 minutes!

At one point she tripped and her feet slipped off the edge of the trail. It was a bit of a slope with dead leaves on it, so while it wasn't steep at all and she wouldn't have really gone anywhere, she did slide down maybe a foot or two before she came to a stop. She didn't really cry, but she was a bit shaken up and once she was back on her feet, she stayed more on the other side of the trail. Every now and then she would walk over to the edge and point and make sure that we knew that there was a slope there. It's very reassuring to a parent to see caution in action!!
