New advances in knitting

I am an obsessive knitter so therefore am often knitting as I sit and interact with Sierra as she plays. Partly for fun, and partly out of necessity I've made a little "knitting bag" for her to play with. It contains a pair of really large circular needles and little bits of yarn for her to play with which I call her "stash". She can say "knit" and "yarn" and she also does a really exaggerated arm motion to demonstrate her ability to "knit." This is all very exciting to both her and her mother!

She loves to look through my pattern books and pretend to knit things. One particular book is her favorite (it also happens to be my favorite so it's out a lot!) and it has all the pictures of the projects in the front of the book, and all the written patterns in the back. When she gets to the "boring" part with no pictures and only words, she'll hold the book up high and "read" out of it in a very loud proclamatory voice. This is really quite a sight to behold!

We reached a critical point this week with the yarn. I usually am quite careful to keep my yarn ball close to me when I'm knitting because Sierra is prone to grab it and run across the room with it, or pull on my working yarn, etc. In order to avoid pulling out my work, or breaking the yarn, I've worked out a system by which I can "protect" my yarn without it becoming a huge issue with her and it seems to generally work out fine. This week, though, I was working at the table and I didn't notice that my skein of yarn had fallen off the table and onto the floor by my feet. Sierra was running around playing with her toys and suddenly she stopped and came over. The next thing I knew, she was handing me my yarn and saying, "Mama, mama--yarn, up." This is very, very good!!!!

Later that day we were heading upstairs together because she wanted to play with some of her toys that are up there. As we were walking up the stairs Sierra turned around and noticed that I was empty handed and she said, "Mama yarn?"
