Alphamania
A few weeks ago Hudson, her cousin, sent her a little note. He's learning how to write all his letters now and his note read, "Sierra, you are so lucky to have two R's in your name!" Evidently that's all it took for Sierra to become very interested in the alphabet letters. We went out and got her a set of magnetic letters that go on the fridge and also an alphabet puzzle. It's interesting because she links each letter with a person or a thing according to what the name starts with: for instance, D is "Daddy's letter", M is "Mommy's letter", etc. So far she recognizes accurately over half of the letters. Here are some of the associations that she makes:
B-Baby
D-Daddy
E-Elephant
G-Grandma and Grandpa
H-Hudson
J-Daddy (Jonathan)
M-Mommy
N-Nana
O-Octopus
P-Penguin
R-Rabbit
S-Sierra
U-Umbrella
W-Wilson and Wyndham (one of her little buddies, and his mom)
Z-Zebra
She also goes around singing "BBC, BBC" which is her attempt to sing the ABC song, as opposed to any affinity to British media.
