Bilingual beginnings

Sierra has learned how to turn on her bedside lamp, so yesterday when we heard her awake in the morning, we could see under the door that she had turned on her light and was "reading" out loud. Sure enough, I opened the door, and she was sitting on her bed with several dolls lined up facing her. "I'm reading to these two kids," she said. Then she patted the pillow next to her and said, "I promise you that if you sit right here, you'll be able to see the pictures." (Apparently the other kids she was reading to weren't interested in seeing any pictures.)

Once I got settled in, she began reading again. "Bee doo wah tom la too ma." Then she looked up brightly and announced, "Mommy, this book is in Spanish!"
