Ramping up

Today we took the girls to the Children's Museum and while Jonathan was helping Sierra build something, I took Evi up to the toddler room. She loved everything--she spent time driving little cars around on the sand table, had a growling match with a rather large rubber Pterodactyl, kept returning to a particular rocking horse and going for a ride.

There is an area sort of like a sandbox, but with birdseed. They have those sand toys that you pour into the top and as the sand (or in this case, birdseed) falls through the mechanism, it makes the gears spin. She was getting quite proficient at pouring shovelfuls of birdseed in, but after several attempts in a row in which the seed fell off her shovel before she could manage to pour it in the top, she tossed the shovel aside with a dismissive gesture and spun the gears with her hands!

My all-time favorite, though, was the ramp. They have a little path that goes up a fairly steep ramp and then down. Evi absolutely loved doing this and she probably went around and around about 20 times. The funny part was that while she was actually going up and down, she had this very serious, concentrated look of absolute determination. Then, as soon as her feet hit the flat ground at the bottom and she was circling around to start again, she would laugh out loud with an absolutely hysterical laugh. But the moment she "hit the slopes" again, she was back to all business.
