Moving movies

Tonight I watched The Sound of Music with the girls in anticipation of going to see the broadway show next weekend (it's being put on by the Pittsburgh CLO and the sister of one of Evelyn's schoolmates got cast as Gretel!) I wanted to make sure the girls really understood the story as we went along, so I was explaining everything that was happening. The part that really got to Evelyn was when Maria left to go back to the abbey without saying good-bye and then when the children went to the abbey to visit her, they weren't allowed to see her. Ev just couldn't stop crying--she had tears upon tears just pouring down her little face and she kept asking me "Why did she leave without saying good-bye?" and "Is she going to go back to the kids?" and "Why weren't the kids allowed to see her?" It was so sweet.... and also nice to know that I have another crier in the family--I'll always have good company watching movies, and as long as we have a box of tissues on hand we'll be fine. :-)
