Shakespeare
This weekend the girls saw their very first Shakespeare play--The Merry Wives of Windsor. A good friend of mine who is an actor started the Shakespeare in the Park program here in Pittsburgh, and the production takes place in various parks around the city during the month of September each year. Although they are just in the grass and in amongst the trees, they do the full show complete with costumes, and some props.
The girls were absolutely mesmerized during the whole show, and thought that it was great fun, although they kept asking afterwards how Falstaff could be in love with two women at once. That did not compute for them. I guess they are developing good sense in this area at an early age....
After the show Evelyn ran up to at least three of her favorite actors (Mistress Page, Mistress Ford, and Nym) and threw her arms around them and wouldn't stop hugging them. They were completely enamored with her!
Sierra was impressed that the incidental music between scenes was provided by solo cello, so that made it extra interesting for her. Unfortunately she scored a bee sting at the park, which today has made her calf swell up to twice its normal size.
At any rate, I think we have two budding Shakespeare enthusiasts that we may be able to take to Ashland before too long. Hooray!
