"Mommy" and "Daddy" play risque

When I went into the living room this morning, "Mommy" and "Daddy" from Sierra's playhouse were on the floor as you see. Umm.... I thought this would be pretty funny to keep for posterity, and I have no further comment, except that I think it's halarious that the car that they were "riding" in is kicked aside (chauffer still in the driver's seat and all) so that they can get on with whatever (??) they are doing.

Cool quips

Sierra surprises me daily with the stuff she says--one of the really fun things about this age. At one meal I asked her if she was finished and wanted to get down. She looked at me with her head tilted to the side and said, "Perhaps."

When her toys kept falling off the precarious perch she had created for them, she seemed really upset and finally blurted out, "I'm very, very frustrated!"

Tonight we were playing with her on the couch before bedtime. I was holding her at some point and I gave her a couple of pats on her back. She whipped around and said, "Hey, I don't want to be burped!"

Sleeping through the night

I hope I don't jinx it by writing this in the blog, but I think we can now officially say that Evi is sleeping through the night. She goes down around 7pm and wakes up between 7 and 8 the next morning, and has been doing this for about a week now. It's a beautiful thing! Now the only excuse I have for being a zombie all the time is that I stay up WAY TOO LATE. But hey, I'm getting a lot of knitting done.

Back in the olden days, when Sierra was young

I put a dress on Sierra that my Grandma made for me when I was about her age. I explained to her about the dress and she was going to tell Daddy about it at breakfast. As we sat down at the table she sagely announced, "Daddy, I used to wear this dress when I was a little girl like Mamma."

Nighttime travels

When I went in to feed Evi at 4am or whenever, her little burrito wrap was sitting there still perfectly wrapped up, still facing the same direction I had laid her down... but empty! She had shot herself completely out of the wrap and somehow made her way completely around the blanket without touching it and messing it up, and was laying crosswise along the bottom of the crib where her feet had been pointing.

Heavy sleepers

Yesterday the most massive storm that I have ever seen in my life hit our neighborhood. When I saw the wind and the rain I ran to the front window because the 5 story trees across the street looked like they might get ripped out of the ground and blow away. The thunder and lightning were constant and right over us, and it sounded like there was a train going by. I guess it's possible that we were in the middle of a tornado (there was a tornado warning in our area, although later they said they didn't think it actually touched down). I had been standing at the front window in amazement, and hoping that our house wouldn't blow apart when the tree in our neighbors' yard which was not massive, but definitely taller than their 3-story house, just snapped and came crashing down in a tangle of electrical wires and a big eruption of sparks. Luckily no fire started. I had just put Sierra down for her nap about 5 or 10 minutes before all this started and I kept debating whether I should go get her out of her room. Since she didn't seem in immediate danger, and since I didn't want to instill fear in her from the storm (so far she hasn't really seemed scared of thunder) I opted to not go back in her room, figuring that if she got scared, she would call me. As it turned out, both she and Evi slept right through the whole thing and I never heard a peep from either of them!

lol

This week Evi officially made a real life, audible, full-on laugh out loud. She mostly has demonstrated this when Sierra is in front of her, doing her two-yr-old antics. Not surprising.

Caveats

At dinner Sierra was having a "two" moment and shouting out that she wanted this that and the other thing. Her latest was, I WANT MILK IN A CUP!! and, since she tends to ditch out on the food if she gets milk in a cup we had told her she needed to eat a certain amount on her plate and then she could have some. At some point in the conversation Jonathan mused aloud that perhaps we were giving her too many caveats. Without skipping a beat, Sierra shouted out, I WANT MORE CAVEATS!!!

In the great green room....

Today at nap time Sierra was "reading" Good Night, Moon to me. She would say "In the great green room there was a...." and then say whatever was on that particular page--a mouse, a house, whatever. When she got to the "old lady whispering hush" she said, "In the great green room there's an old lady knitting a sweater... for ME!!!!"
