Mommy curfew

It's 11pm and Evelyn just stumbled out of bed and came down to where I was still up practicing. After observing me with a measure of disbelief she said emphatically, "It's DARK, Mommy, you should go to bed!!"

Saving small businesses

This morning when Evelyn wanted one of the play-people that Sierra was using, she put it to Evelyn this way: "I'm sorry, I can't give you that person because he's the store-keeper and if he leaves, his store is going to go out of business."

Carousel

Tonight when Evelyn was eating her dinner she arranged her orange pieces spiraling out from the center and announced, "That looks like a carousel!" Then she took a pear slice and added it to the plate, adding, "Now it's a 'pear'-ousel!"

The joy of abbreviations

We have a children's book which comes with a disc of recorded music. When Evelyn opened the book the other day, she exclaimed, "Look! There's an A-B-C-D in here!!"

Smile, tax man!

Well, I just discovered that while Jonathan and I were outside shoveling two feet of snow off our driveway this afternoon, the girls were equally industrious inside the house in an elaborate project involving our W2 forms and a pink marker. Does the IRS have a fridge? Just sayin'.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....

We've just had what the people around here are calling the "Storm of the Decade," but which in fact is the fourth worst winter storm in recorded Pittsburgh history. We got 21" of snow and are expecting 3 more inches on Tuesday for an even 2 ft. We've been holed up in our house for days now and we finally spent 3 hours today shoveling out our driveway. Near the street where they've plowed, the snow is about up to my shoulders, so cutting into that to make a path to our driveway was interesting, to say the least. Jonathan and I are aching and sore from our shoveling endeavors. In addition to the practical work of cutting paths to and from our house, Jonathan also made not one, but two snow caves in our front yard. The girls have had a blast playing in them and making a snow princess(complete with tiara). Our whole yard looks like a snow fairyland!

When bad things happen...

Evelyn: My pink dog might fall DOWN!!!
Me: Oh no, we wouldn't want that to happen!
Evelyn: Yeah, that would be a TRAVESTY!
